Week 2

This week we read Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh.
Our first destination was Christ Church, Oxford. Here is an image of the great hall which signifies the excellence that dined here. The characters, Charles and Sebastian, in the novel went here. Fun fact: Harry Potter was also filmed here.
This was taken in Christ Church at a fountain in the center. Water can be interpreted many ways, but the lotuses and lily pads are peaceful and can resemblance hope and purity. The ripples show how when you toss something into this water it causes a long term effect. The actions of the characters in the novel we read made choices that lead to their ultimate rise or downfall.

Our next destination was the Eltham Palace. Here I am inside the beautiful garden attempting to become one with nature. The garden was so vast, and this doesn't even begin to capture the beauty of what I saw.

Here is an image of mother and child in the Italian Drawing Room. Many of the characters in the novel struggles with their feelings towards the Catholic faith.

The last place we visited was Hampton Court Palace. Here is an image of  The Fountain Court. The fountain was very significant in the novel. It went from a beautiful piece to an abandoned piece of architecture soldiers used as an ashtray. It represents the loss faith Charles had.

When you enter William III's Apartments in the Hampton Court Palace you are engulfed in the beauty of a Baroque style painting on all the walls around you. This is only a small portion a camera could capture. This really demonstrates how William viewed himself in society. Several of the images portrayed Greek mythology and made him appear almost God like. 'If you got it flaunt it!'

  1. Gorgeous photos! I think it's really interesting how you focused on the symbolism of the water itself instead of the fountain as a whole. I think it opens a new can of worms for insight into our novel!

  4. I found the images soothing and serene, emotions that poor Sebastyn, who struggled with his faith, found illusive.
